Manchester United are being linked with re-signing Scott McTominay after comments from Napoli.
Scott McTominay has been a huge hit at Napoli following his 2024 move from Manchester United, even nominated for the Ballon d’Or.
Recent comments from Napoli’s global business development officer Leonardo Giammarioli have cast doubt on whether they will be able to hold onto him.
Last week Giammarioli told TalkSPORT he was concerned that finances will make Napoli powerless to resist bids, citing McTominay as an example. He also said he would respect it if the Scotland international did move on.
“Yeah, of course I’m worried. But ultimately, especially Scott, who’s a very nice guy, we’re happy if he gets to the next level in a couple of years – maybe not now, maybe not next year, but he deserves it.
“Look at Stuttgart, they wanted to keep Nick Woltemade, but when such an offer comes in, there’s not much you can do, when the player wants to go and money is important.”
Would you re-sign Scott McTominay for Manchester United?
Where would he fit in? How much is he worth?

Scott McTominay linked to Manchester United
Scott McTominay has already scored 23 goals in a Napoli shirt in less than two full seasons. He scored 29 for Manchester United between 2017 and 2024.
With Giammarioli’s comments as a backdrop, Italian outlet TMW has provided analysis of McTominay’s speculation, citing his desire to eventually return to the Premier League.
Their report claims Manchester United would be at the front of the queue.
“Those who know him well explain that he’s happy in Naples, that he’s content with Napoli. But he also dreams of returning, sooner or later, to the Premier League.
“And among the many teams reportedly ready to welcome him back to England, do you know who’s leading the way? Manchester United.”
Napoli paid £25.4 million to sign McTominay, a deal that helped United’s PSR.
However, the money was used to buy Manuel Ugarte, who has struggled to win over fans at Old Trafford during his two seasons.
United do have a small sell-on clause in the deal with Napoli if he was sold to another club.

What do you think of McTominay's comments? How much he is worth now?
McTominay to United makes more sense in the distant future
It is not unrealistic to think Scott McTominay would return to Manchester United in the future, it is hard to imagine him playing for another English club.
He has transformed his game to become a more prolific contributor in front of goal, defining his role as a more attacking player, having flitted between positions at United.
Ruben Amorim’s system might actually have helped McTominay, creating an attacking slot alongside Bruno Fernandes.
Now with a return to United, McTominay would be asked to either drop deeper, or play back-up to Fernandes.
As a squad option he would be useful, if United decided to part ways with the unreliable Mason Mount this summer.
But it feels like McTominay still has more to give at Napoli and won’t be in a rush to leave this summer.
They are still on course to qualify for the Champions League and activate the Rasmus Hojlund obligation clause.
We would suspect the possibility of a McTominay return becomes more viable in 2027, once United have fixed the base of the midfield, not in 2026.
