How Man Utd now feel about Bruno Fernandes future amid fresh Saudi Arabia links

The career of Bruno Fernandes at Manchester United could be in the final stages this season, with speculation already building over a potential 2026 exit.

Last summer, the Saudi Pro League came strong to Manchester United in an attempt to sign Bruno Fernandes.

It was Al-Hilal who came with interest, offering £100m to United and hundreds of millions in wages to Fernandes, but the answer was clear.

Fernandes turned down Al-Hilal in favour of remaining at Old Trafford, where he is absolutely invaluable. However, this season has seen Fernandes playing out of position, and the team is almost moving beyond him.

Now, his exit is once again major news.

Manchester United have held talks over Bruno Fernandes sale

Currently on international duty with Portugal, Fernandes spoke about how he wanted to stay at United last summer, not considering the exit options.

While he will have the final say over whether he makes the 2026 switch to Saudi Arabia, United in Focus understands, via Graeme Bailey, that United have already held talks over a sale.

“Bruno Fernandes has made it clear to Manchester United that he will not be pushed out of the club, hence his quotes about the Saudi Pro League.

“Fernandes considered the Saudi Pro League last summer, but both the player and United were not keen. Since then, things have changed. Sources confirm that United have indeed held talks with the Pro League about Fernandes.

“However, Fernandes – as we know – has not put the brakes on this by publicly stating his stance.

“It is clear Fernandes will decide his own future.”

This comes after Fabrizio Romano suggested Fernandes to Saudi Arabia could be reignited as the Pro League are still prepared to offer him crazy money.

Manchester United should move on from Bruno Fernandes in 2026

Manchester United’s current system has its faults, and in midfield is where the current biggest concerns are, with Fernandes struggling to bring the balance needed.

Being an unnatural fit, along with Fernandes being 31, means cashing in next summer would be wise in order to invest in a defensive midfielder, which could elevate the system from what we see now, into the way United fans saw Sporting thrash Man City last season.

Selling Fernandes to bring in Elliot Anderson, for example, alongside Kobbie Mainoo, would be a massive improvement for United on the current Fernandes and Casemiro pairing.

Fernandes is a modern-day club legend; however, this should be his final season at the club.
