Galatasaray star set to face Man Utd after £17m summer interest

Manchester United face Galatasaray on Tuesday night and that means a first-hand look at rumoured target Sacha Boey.

United head into the game having lost 1-0 to Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon.

Two wins against Burnley and Palace seemed to help United build some momentum but the weekend defeat brought all of that crashing back down.

Now it’s back to Champions League action for United, with Galatasaray posing a potential banana skin at Old Trafford.

The Turkish side have players who can cause problems; Angelino, Wilfried Zaha, Mauro Icardi, Tete, Lucas Torreira and Kerem Demirbay have all shown their quality over the years.

Manchester United set to face Sacha Boey

One player United already know about is right back Sacha Boey, having allegedly targeted him earlier this year.

Turkish Football reported in April that United had joined the race to sign Galatasaray defender Boey over the summer.

It was suggested that United made enquiries into signing Boey with Galatasaray seeking around €20million (£17million).

United didn’t end up signing a right back over the summer, instead sticking with Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot.

That meant Boey ended up staying with Galatasaray and, barring any late issues, he should line up against United in the hope of showing Erik ten Hag and co what they are missing.

United window closed for Boey?

Hailed as ‘amazing’ by former Arsenal right back Bacary Sagna, Boey has impressed since joining Galatasaray from Rennes in 2021, recording three goals and four assists in 66 games.

The Frenchman seemed destined for a Premier League move over the summer with Arsenal rivalling United for his signature.

The deal just never materialised and United may well move on from Boey – unless he turns in a stunning performance on Tuesday night.

Dalot signed a new five-year contract in May whilst talks have started over a new deal for Wan-Bissaka.

It’s hard to see United splash out for Boey as well, but he would no doubt love to play a starring role in a shock Galatasaray win.
