Romelu Lukaku could return to the Premier League this summer, with Napoli willing to listen to offers for the experienced Belgian striker.

It’s been almost seven years since Romelu Lukaku left Manchester United, after two mixed seasons at Old Trafford.

Lukaku signed from Everton in 2017 for a whopping fee of £75 million under Jose Mourinho. He hit the ground running by scoring a brace in his first Premier League game for the club before scoring a total of 27 goals across all competitions in his first season.

The second season didn’t go as planned, and Mourinho was sacked, but Lukaku was no longer the primary striker. United agreed to sell him to Inter Milan in a deal worth £74 million. He has since played for Inter Milan, Chelsea, Roma and now Napoli.

Napoli open door to potential Premier League return for Romelu Lukaku

Lukaku, 32, has had a frustrating campaign in Italy, which has tested his relationship with Napoli manager Antonio Conte.

There is more competition for strikers at Napoli than last year, with Rasmus Hojlund leading the line after joining the Serie A side on loan from United.

However, Lukaku has made just seven appearances, but injuries have also been a hindrance.

According to TEAMtalk, Napoli are open to letting Lukaku leave as they reshape their attacking department ahead of next season.

Intermediaries are actively exploring opportunities beyond Serie A, which could open the door to a return to the Premier League, where Lukaku is no stranger, having previously played for four clubs in the top division. They include Chelsea, United, Everton and West Brom.

Lukaku has been offered to both AC Milan and Inter Milan, although neither club is showing intent to launch a pursuit for the striker.

The report stresses that it will depend on Lukaku’s fitness and the financial package of any deal, while Napoli would be happy to accept a £20 million transfer fee for his signature.

Romelu Lukaku’s top moment at Man Utd

Lukaku’s time at Old Trafford was relatively brief, but we have looked back at his most memorable moment in a red shirt.

In March 2019, United were trailing 2-0 from the first leg of their Champions League last 16 tie against Paris Saint-Germain.

Lukaku was at his best as he took advantage of a PSG mistake in the opening minutes before rounding Gianluigi Buffon to score. He scored a second to make it 2-1 before the half-time break.

United secured a place in the quarter-finals after Marcus Rashford’s late penalty led to one of the best comebacks in Champions League history.
