FC Lausanne-Sport working on agreement to sign Sekou Kone on loan, but there’s another option too

Sekou Kone could be on the verge of leaving Manchester United on loan in January as FC Lausanne-Sport emerges as a potential destination for the youngster in Switzerland.

When Sekou Kone signed for Manchester United in 2024, he was seen as one of the hottest young talents in world football.

Despite impressing under Ruben Amorim during the pre-season tour, Kone has yet to make his first-team debut for United.

That means Kone has been limited to appearances in the youth teams at United, but his development was also derailed by an orbital bone injury.

Who is next in line to graduate from Manchester United’s academy in 2026?

Kone has been tipped to leave United on loan, but there will be plenty of potential suitors looking to sign a promising defensive midfielder tipped with a bright future at Old Trafford.

The fact that the midfield needs a revamp means there could be an opening in the first-team at the latter stages of 2026, if Kone can prove himself in the latter stages of the 2025/26 season.

FC Lausanne-Sport want Sekou Kone on loan for the remainder of the season

With Kone unable to get any first-team football under his belt since joining United, the 19-year-old is having to bide his time as well as ride a wave of injury setbacks.

Kone was linked with a move to FC Lausanne-Sport in the summer. The Swiss club are part of Ineos’ multi-club project, making them one of United’s ‘sister clubs’ that could see multiple youth prospects sent to Switzerland to get more opportunities at a senior level.

According to Give Me Sport, Kone is attracting growing interest from Switzerland and Belgium as clubs assess potential January business.

Lausanne want to sign Kone on loan for the remainder of the season, but they will need to fight off interest from a potential suitor in Belgium.

It is understood that Kone’s situation is being closely monitored behind the scenes, with his development being the key factor in discussions.

United will want to ensure that whatever happens with Kone in January, the young midfielder’s development remains a priority. There is no point sending him away on loan to sit on the bench and not get any games when he’s already doing that under Amorim’s eye at United.

How are FC Lausanne-Sport doing in the Swiss Super League?

After playing 18 matches, FC Lausanne are sitting 9th in the Swiss Super League – four places from the bottom.

Lausanne have managed to win just five games this season, so Kone would be joining a team in need of some quality.

It should be easier that way to guarantee that Kone plays a regular role in the team and benefits from the experience of being away from United.

Kone is expected to feature on United’s pre-season tour next summer.
