Manchester United are keeping constantly up to date over Ajax defender Jurrien Timber.
Early last summer Manchester United held talks over a move for Ajax centre-back Jurrien Timber, The Guardian reported at the time.
Timber stayed at Ajax and extended his contract, while United swooped for his more experienced teammate Lisandro Martinez instead, which probably ended up being a blessing in disguise.
12 months on, Jurrien Timber’s future at Ajax looks uncertain after he told De Telegraaf last month that he expects to leave the club this summer.
Erik ten Hag big fan of Jurrien Timber
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag managed Jurrien Timber at Ajax and handed him his debut.
Speaking to The United Stand, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano says Manchester United are continuing to monitor Timber’s situation.
He explained: “On Timber, Manchester United are always informed of the situation.
“Erik ten Hag is the biggest fan of Timber in football, he is a fantastic centre-back. It depends on Ajax, how much they would ask for Timber.”
Timber, 21, is considered an outstanding prospect for the future and his relations with Erik ten Hag counts in his favour.
However, he is not the only centre-back Manchester United are interested in, with the club strongly linked to Napoli defender Kim Min-Jae.
Min-Jae is five years older, still a good age at 26, but there is a difference between them in terms of profile that United have to weigh up.
Timber might take a bit longer to settle in the Premier League, but if successful, he could play at the top level for a decade, and United have to weigh this all up.
An advantage over Min-Jae is his release clause, which enables United to know precisely how much he would cost, rather than face more protracted negotiations with Ajax like last summer.
