Fabrizio Romano provides update on Senne Lammens transfer to Man Utd, goalkeeper ‘keen’ on move

Manchester United are trying to continue strengthening their squad ahead of the 2025/26 season.

Ruben Amorim endured a difficult first six months as Manchester United head coach after replacing Erik ten Hag in the hotseat at Old Trafford. There was no new manager bounce as results worsened and United finished 15th in the Premier League.

The last chance to clinch Champions League football was scuppered in May as United lost the Europa League final to Tottenham Hotspur. Now, Amorim is planning to improve results ahead of the new campaign, after signing two players with Premier League experience.

Matheus Cunha arrived from Wolves earlier in the summer, with Bryan Mbeumo joining from Brentford over a month later.

United have also brought in Diego Leon, who signed an agreement with the club from Cerro Porteno in January. There are now five weeks left for the Red Devils to complete the rest of their business.

Senne Lammens keen on Manchester United transfer

It comes as no surprise that Amorim wants to sign a new goalkeeper this summer.

Not only does Andre Onana need competition for his place between the sticks, but Altay Bayindir could leave in search of regular first team football. The Turkish international is currently on a pre-season tour in the United States with his future uncertain.

United failed with a loan offer for Emiliano Martinez, with Aston Villa standing firm on their £40m valuation for the goalkeeper.

That means alternative targets would be explored, such as Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp.

In a recent update on his YouTube channel, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano stresses that Lammens remains a target for United this summer.

Interestingly, Romano adds that the 23-year-old is keen on a switch to Old Trafford, which only adds more fuel to the fire.

“If they [United] want to go for a young goalkeeper, in that case, Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp remains the name,” Romano said.

“A player really appreciated by Man United, scouted for a long time, with the player also keen on a move.”

It always helps United’s negotiation stance when the player in question is willing to join the club, as seen when Mbeumo turned down several clubs to join the Reds.

Amorim goalkeeper dilemma for pre-season

Although Onana has travelled with United to the US for the pre-season tour, the Cameroon stopper will not play any matches of the tour after suffering a hamstring injury.

That means Onana won’t get sufficient preparations done ahead of the new season.

United play West Ham on Saturday and Amorim has Altay Bayindir, Tom Heaton, Dermot Mee and Will Murdock to select from between the sticks.

United fans will hope any of the new signings get some time to settle in pre-season before the new season, which will also apply to a potential new goalkeeper.
