Guido Rodriguez has ‘no agreement’ over a new deal at Real Betis with reports suggesting the World Cup winner could join Manchester United in the New Year.
Even before Casemiro was ruled out until 2024, we’ve been due an uncomfortable conversation for a while now. They say form is temporary, of course, and no one is doubting Casemiro’s class.
But with his 32nd birthday approaching, and following some truly dismal performances in the early months of Manchester United’s current campaign, the logic of handing Casemiro a four-year contract when signing the veteran enforcer from Real Madrid back in 2022 is starting to feel increasingly questionable.

Guido Rodriguez latest
Not that Guido Rodriguez would be a particularly long-term replacement.
Rodriguez is 29 himself, after all. Though the Argentine’s affordability and availability arguably makes him a punt worth taking.
The all-action defensive midfielder, part of Argentina’s World Cup winning squad in Qatar, will be a free agent in 2024, with Fabrizio Romano explaining that there has been little movement in talks over an extension.
“Real Betis want to offer Guido Rodriguez a new deal as he comes closer to being a free agent. The same for (AC Milan-linked left-back) Juan Miranda,” Romano tells Caught Offside. “But, at this stage, there’s no agreement with both players, including Guido.
“It’s an open situation. There’s interest from many clubs, including Atletico Madrid.”
Manchester United linked with Guido Rodriguez
Manchester United too, according to Andalusian-based publication Estadio Deportivo. They believe that Rodriguez has been on United’s radar for a while, and Casemiro’s absence has seen the Red Devils return for a long-time target ahead of the January window.
Rodriguez has a £68 million release clause in his contract.
Betis, however, may be forced to consider lowball bids in the winter, if talks over a new contract continue to stall.
Reports linking the former Club America ace with a move to Old Trafford, meanwhile, may already raise questions over the future of Sofyan Amrabat, the Fiorentina loanee already struggling for game time under Erik ten Hag.
