Manchester United are among the top clubs clamouring to sign promising Middlesbrough right-back Djed Spence.

Spence has been on loan at Nottingham Forest this season and The Mirror reported three weeks ago Manchester United were keen.

Now an update from Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg reports Spence is a Manchester United fan and would favour a move to Old Trafford.

Bayern Munich are also said to have enquired after Spence, per The Mirror‘s previous report.

Top prospect

Spence, 21, made his debut for England’s under-21 side last month. He is currently playing alongside Manchester United loanee James Garner.

He impressed in Forest’s FA Cup run, which featured victories over Arsenal and Leicester City.

Spence has played 35 league games for Forest this season, providing four assists and scoring twice.

The Mirror claim Middlesbrough would demand £20 million for Spence, although Plettenberg suggests a fee may be less.

United’s plans for the right-back spot are unclear, with plenty of options and no outstanding solution, yet.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot have not been able to strengthen their own claims this season, while Ethan Laird has been impressing on loan in the Championship – and would be an alternative to Spence.

With other Premier League teams interested in Spence, United may have to make a decision this summer.

A final call will be left with new boss Erik ten Hag, but certainly, United are unlikely to have trouble convincing the prospect to sign on at Old Trafford if it comes down to a straight choice.
