A move for Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard may well be out of reach for Manchester United this summer but next summer cannot be ruled out.

The move to take the Frenchman to Old Trafford this summer is seemingly unlikely due to Harry Maguire looking set to stay following the deal to take the Englishman to West Ham United collapsed.

According to Dharmesh Sheth from Sky Sports, the deal to take Pavard to Manchester this summer is now unlikely because of Maguire’s decision to stay at Old Trafford following the lack of a pay-off.

Pavard’s move, which he has been desperate to make according to The Sun, may well be delayed rather than cancelled altogether.

Pavard’s contract situation

The Frenchman has just one-year remaining on his Bayern contract so he could agree to a pre-contract agreement with any club in Europe in January if he so wishes.

The defender would have been an astute addition to the United backline as Erik ten Hag is still looking for defensive reinforcements whether it’s at right-back or at centre-back.

Bayern were demanding around £38 million for the 27-year-old defender which United naturally balked at and decided the defender was seemingly overvalued by his current club.

Would he wait for United

The question if this deal fails to materialise, which is likely as things stand, is whether Pavard would wait to join Erik ten Hag’s side next summer.

No doubt for a player of his qualities and his versatility, there will be plenty of top clubs enquiring about the Brazilian’s future.

Manchester City were once linked to the defender by The Guardian as a Kyle Walker replacement but the Englishman is set to stay at the Etihad.

The French defender would surely stand to earn a hefty signing-on bonus if he makes the move to United but is seemingly eager to make the move this summer.
