Club want to re-sign Man Utd star after selling him to Red Devils in summer, Ineos won’t consider proposed deal

Manchester United will be disappointed by some of their previous transfer decisions.

The Red Devils have been one of England’s biggest spending clubs in recent years.

Since the 2023 summer window, Manchester United’s owners have signed off on some huge deals, including spending £72 million on Rasmus Hojlund and £55 million on Mason Mount — and few have worked out.

Although last summer’s business, which included United beating Real Madrid to Leny Yoro and pinching Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain, was a significant upgrade from the year before, there have still been some disappointing acquisitions — and one player, in particular, is already being linked with leaving Old Trafford.

Bologna want to re-sign Joshua Zirkzee

Despite selling him to Manchester United less than 12 months ago for £36.5 million, according to Calciomercato, Serie A side Bologna would like to bring Joshua Zirkzee back to the Renato Dall’Ara Stadium.

Vincenzo Italiano would like to welcome the Netherlands international back to the club but on loan for the remainder of the season. This will be a problem because Manchester United’s hierarchy are only open to a permanent sale.

Not only are Bologna going to struggle to agree a transfer for Zirkzee, but the player himself doesn’t want to stop playing in the Premier League.

Zirkzee’s struggles are not all his fault

Joining Manchester United is a huge step up for nearly every player, especially one who moves from abroad, and it’s no secret that Zirkzee has found it difficult.

Zirkzee was recently booed off the Old Trafford pitch following a disappointing first-half display against Newcastle United.

The criticism he has received hasn’t been completely fair though. Ruben Amorim has a unique style of play and likes to utilise a high-intensity system — it will take time for every Manchester United first-team player to adapt, and Zirkzee is no exception.

While his start to life in England hasn’t set the world alight, at just 23, there is still plenty of room for growth — it really just depends on whether Sir Jim Ratcliffe will listen to fans and sell Zirkzee, or persist with a player who now clearly lacks confidence.
