Atletico Madrid’s president has confirmed that Portuguese forward Joao Felix doesn’t want to play for the club again. Could Manchester United swoop in?

Joao Felix is a strange player. He arrived at Atletico Madrid a few years back for a whopping £113m with the world at his feet.

Once labelled as the ‘next Ronaldo‘, now he looks a shadow of his former self. He endured a hideous loan spell with Chelsea, who snubbed signing him. Now it’s clear he doesn’t want to play for Atletico.

Despite his past few seasons, it’s indisputable – there’s a player there… could this be a potential opportunity for Manchester United?

Joao Felix… a Manchester United target?

Spanish Media Outlet Jugonesla Sexta revealed what the Atletico Madrid president said when questioned about the Portuguese forward.

“It’s very clear, João Félix doesn’t want to play for Atléti”, he says. “Whether other teams want him, that’s another debate.”

Interesting. With not long left in the transfer window, the 22-year-old is running out of time.

Spanish outlet ABC linked Felix with Manchester United earlier this summer. He has been linked on and off, pretty much every season dating back to when he was at Benfica.

It isn’t the worst idea…

United still need a striker. We know Rasmus Hojlund is going to be entering the frame, but if he’s injured – who leads the line? Not Martial – knowing his injury record.

If they could somehow get a loan deal over the line, he’s probably one of the best available options out there.

He may work in United’s attack. He can link up play, dribble at defenders and has moments of brilliance – something that has been missing thus far this season.

United are also struggling massively financially. A loan deal would mean no up-front cost, combined with no stress if he were to flop in Manchester.

It’s one to keep an eye on heading into deadline day.
