Inter Milan reportedly ‘hope’ that Premier League giants Manchester United meet their asking price for Andre Onana as the Serie A outfit hope to ease their financial concerns.
As Gazzetta dello Sport pointed out earlier this week – with Manchester United ready to swear in Andre Onana as the heir to David de Gea’s Old Trafford throne – Inter Milan ‘need’ the Cameroon international’s sale to go through if they are to have any hope to retaining Romelu Lukaku for another season.
Lukaku will officially return to parent club Chelsea on July 1st.
And Inter simply do not have the funds to agree fresh terms without first doing a deal with United for a goalkeeper they signed on a free transfer from Erik ten Hag’s former employers Ajax just 12 months ago.

Manchester United close in on Andre Onana
According to Gianluca di Marzio, United should submit their opening bid on Friday night. Talks between are ‘progressing quickly’.
And, with Inter looking to avoid the sort of transfer saga that would threaten to disrupt up their pursuit of Lukaku, the Nerazzuri bosses reportedly ‘hope’ that United simply stump up the initial £42 million they want as all parties look to reach an agreement as soon as possible.
Finding a goalkeeper capable of emulating Onana’s cat-like reflexes and playmaker-like passing range will be easier said than done. But, as former Inter midfielder Fausto Pizzi tells Tuttomercatoweb, the Champions League finalists can console themselves with making a colossal profit on a player who could eventually earn them up to £50 million with add-ons included.
“Onana is perfect for this Inter,” Pizzi argues.
“He is very good with his long and short passes, and it would be a shame to lose him. I can understand that, at the corporate level, it is an absurd capital gain.
“But it will be very difficult to replace him.”
Onana should become United’s second signing of the summer. The Red Devils agreed a deal with Chelsea for Mason Mount on Thursday.
David de Gea’s contract officially expires on Saturday but, as The Sun explain, he is currently being asked to keep his powder dry in case United run into any problems regarding their pursuit of Onana.
And we don’t know about you, but we cannot wait to hear a pub full of middle-aged Manchester United fans belting out Rihanna hits in reaction to another fine Onana save.
