The president of Mexican outfit Club America is playing down reports linking Sebastian Caceres with a move to Premier League giants Manchester United.
The Uruguay international has been a regular in the gossip columns over the last couple of days, a number of reports linking him with a number of different clubs in a number of different countries.
Sevilla, FC Porto, Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle and Manchester United among them.
According to 90Min, the Red Devils have been watching Sebastian Caceres closely over the last 12 months or so, the tough-tackling centre-half establishing himself as a key part of Marcelo Bielsa’s plans on the international stage. Caceres was excellent in Uruguay’s 2-0 win over Brazil in World Cup qualifying this month.

But, when asked about the 24-year-old’s future, Club America president Santiago Banos insists that no one – neither Manchester United nor Spurs or Newcastle – have come forward to express their interest at this stage.
Manchester United linked with Sebastian Caceres
“(The rumours are) fake. There was nothing from Flamengo or Europe,” Banos tells Torcedores.
Of course, this does not mean Manchester United do not hold an interest in the former Liverpool Montevideo man. Banos may insist that Club America have not held talks with any potential suitors just yet, but that could soon change with the January window now just two months away.
According to Transfermarkt, Caceres’ contract expires at the end of the calendar year. As such, he could be available for free in the winter window, an affordable solution to a Manchester United backline hit hard by a variety of injury issues.
The bidding for most of United’s other centre-half targets, in contrast, is likely to start at around £50 million.
Goncalo Inacio of Sporting Lisbon, for instance, has a £52 million release clause in his contract, even if one former Porto and Braga ace is convinced the youngster represents excellent value for money.
