Champions League forward ‘ready to talk’ to Man United about January move

Bayern Munich forward Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting is ‘ready to talk’ about a move to Manchester United this January, according to reports.

Erik ten Hag and Manchester United are once again scouring the winter market in search of a potential striker signing who can come into the club as a back-up.

Rasmus Hojlund joined the club in the summer for £64 million but has scored just one Premier League goal for the Red Devils this season and a new back-up striker is now being sought after, according to The Athletic.

Anthony Martial’s future at the club is looking bleak as the Frenchman has just six months remaining on his current deal, United do have an option to extend that by a year but this is looking unlikely.

Choupo-Moting ready to talk

According to a post on X from German journalist Christian Falk, there has been no conversations yet between Bayern Munich and United but Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting would be ready to talk to those at Old Trafford if the Red Devils were to open talks over a potential loan move.

Choup-Moting’s contract at the Allianz Arena expires in the summer so United would have to pay a fee for the Cameroon international forward, but this seems unlikely due to the Red Devils’ financial constraints.

The report from The Athletic detailed that loan deals will be likely this January window due to United teetering on the edge of breaking Financial Fair Play rules which would truly be disastrous.

Saudi Arabia is also an option for the former Stoke City forward who netted five times in the Premier League, so the Red Devils may have to get a move on.

Choupo-Moting profiled

Since his struggles at Stoke, bizarrely, the now 34-year-old has gone up the footballing ladder with moves to Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich coming after his struggles at the Bet365 Stadium.

He has two Bundesliga goals for the German side this season and finds himself down the pecking order at the Allianz Arena following the signing of Harry Kane.

Last season was a different story for the 34-year-old, however, as he netted 10 goals in the league for the German side and an additional four goals in the Champions League.

If United sign the forward for a reasonable price, he could well be a very smart signing.
