Inter Milan have left the door open for Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana to return to the club one day.
United were desperate to land another goalkeeper over the summer having decided to let David De Gea move on.
Erik ten Hag’s top target became clear – he wanted Andre Onana.
The pair worked together at Ajax so United secured a deal worth around £47.2million, reuniting Onana with Ten Hag.
The early results have been a little disappointing, with Onana yet to really convince fans of his shot-stopping abilities.
Inter Milan open to Andre Onana return
This is a far cry from the form Onana showed with Inter Milan last season.
The Cameroonian displaced club hero Samir Handanovic as first-choice stopper and helped Inter reach the Champions League final.
That made United believe that Onana would shine in the Premier League but, to be quite blunt, we are yet to really see it.
Inter still appear to love Onana though with Inter CEO Giuseppe Marotta commenting on a potential San Siro return.
Marotta has been quoted by Fabrizio Romano as saying that ‘anything can happen’ in terms of Onana heading back to Inter one day.
Marotta celebrated signing Onana for free before selling him on for big money, highlighting a ‘great chapter’ for him at Inter whilst leaving the door open for a potential reunion down the line.
“I can’t predict the future but… in football anything can happen,” said Marotta. “For sure it was great chapter for Onana and for us. It was also successful deal to sign him for free and sell for that money,” he added.

United surely won’t be giving up on Onana any time soon
Inter moved to sign Yann Sommer to replace Onana over the summer, landing the 34-year-old from Bayern Munich.
That means Inter won’t be looking for a goalkeeper in the immediate future and we also can’t see United giving up on Onana anyway.
Ten Hag pushed for Onana’s signature in a big-money move over the summer and a difficult opening to the season isn’t enough to make the Dutchman give up.
Onana will be given time to settle at United and hopefully become the goalkeeper he was at Inter.
If Marotta has any dreams of bringing Onana back to Inter, we would predict that he will be waiting for a long time yet.
