Fluminense midfielder Andre has played down rumours of a move to Manchester United – but has admitted his love for Casemiro.
Manchester United landed two new midfielders in the summer transfer window, securing both Mason Mount and Sofyan Amrabat.
Both have endured fairly slow starts at United and we can’t rule out another midfield signing in 2024.
Amrabat is only on loan from Fiorentina and with more energy needed in the middle of the park, United could look to the market again.
Andre comments on Manchester United rumours
One name loosely mentioned is that of Fluminense midfielder Andre.
Brazilian reporter Emmanuel Luiz told The Redmen TV back in August that United had contacted Andre’s representatives.
Fluminense completely refused to sell in the summer though, deciding to keep Andre for their Copa Libertadores campaign.
That decision paid off as Fluminense beat Boca Juniors in the Copa Libertadores final last weekend.
A 2024 move could be in the pipeline though and United have again been mentioned in recent days.
Andre has now told ESPN Brasil that he didn’t hear about United wanting him, and doesn’t believe anything has advanced even if an enquiry has been made.
The 22-year-old did though highlight that he speaks to Casemiro as much as he can during international duty with Brazil, praising the Manchester United ace as a ‘great leader’.
“I didn’t know about it,” said Andre. “And I also don’t think anything came of it. We’re in November, there’s the final stretch of the Brazilian Championship, there’s the Club World Cup, but I’m very happy.”
“Casemiro is a guy who has a huge career, I try to talk to him a lot when I’m with the national team. He’s a person who gives me a lot of advice, he’s a great leader and all I can do is continue playing well and I’m happy with all these surveys and comments,” he added.

Andre could fit the bill for United
Andre isn’t the finished product, as you can expect from a 22-year-old over in Brazil.
The midfielder does have plenty of experience though, racking up more than 150 appearances for Fluminense.
A sitting midfield player, Andre has shown the ability to protect the Fluminense back four but also quickly transition play forward either sharp passes or his dribbling ability.
Andre clearly admires Casemiro and could grow into becoming his future successor at Old Trafford whilst also being able to play alongside him in midfield.
It’s unclear whether United really are making moves for Andre, but given his potential and all-action style of play, this is a move we could get behind.
