Borussia Dortmund director speaks out on Jadon Sancho interest as Chelsea formally confirm winger returns to Man Utd

Borussia Dortmund have distanced themselves from signing Jadon Sancho this summer.

It’s set to be a busy summer for Manchester United following a turbulent campaign that saw the Red Devils finish 15th in the Premier League table.

To make matters worse, United suffered defeat against Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final.

Ruben Amorim will be aiming to strengthen many areas of the team in the transfer market, but Ineos must sell players they deem surplus to requirements to generate funds for additional signings following a deal to take Matheus Cunha to Old Trafford.

Some of those players up for sale will include those who were sent on loan last season, including Jadon Sancho, who won the Europa Conference League playing for Chelsea.

Sebastian Kehl cools speculation surrounding Jadon Sancho

After enduring two successful spells at Borussia Dortmund, Sancho has been linked with another return to the Bundesliga club.

Sancho has struggled during his time in the Premier League, although his reputation remains strong in the Bundesliga.

Only time will tell if it remains strong enough for one of the German clubs to register an interest in signing the England international, who remains one of the top earners at United.

Borussia Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl has cooled speculation, despite stating that they are in regular contact with Sancho.

Kehl stressed that Sancho is not a topic of conversation at Dortmund right now.

“Contact with Jadon is always there, of course, because we have a very long history. But it’s not a topic at the moment,” Kehl said.

“We have other priorities, which is why this personnel matter has probably been discussed more in the media than internally.”

Sancho would be required to take a wage cut if he were to leave Old Trafford for Dortmund – or any Bundesliga club, for that matter.

He added: “There will be many stories again, and possible opportunities on the market. But for now, we are very satisfied with our squad. I believe we have a good structure.”

Dortmund announced the signing of English youngster Jobe Bellingham from Sunderland earlier this week.

Chelsea confirm Jadon Sancho departure

Sancho may have been part of Chelsea’s Europa Conference League winning side, but the winger did not do enough to warrant a permanent deal at Stamford Bridge.

According to Ben Jacobs, Chelsea have confirmed that Sancho will return to United at the end of his loan deal.

That means Chelsea will pay a £5 million penalty fee to override an obligation to buy of up to £25 million.

United will hope Sancho receives interest from elsewhere because Amorim doesn’t want to be stuck with a winger who previously overstepped the line with Erik ten Hag and refused to apologise.
