Manchester United are being urged to sign Tottenham Hotspur and England striker Harry Kane this summer.
Tottenham are in a difficult position with top goalscorer Harry Kane this summer, with the club looking directionless at present as they sit in eighth place.
Caretaker manager Ryan Mason was this weekend forced to deny that Kane waved goodbye to supporters following their final home game of the season, a 3-1 loss to Brentford.
United have not replaced Cristiano Ronaldo since he was released earlier this season and a new striker is a priority this summer.
Ben Foster on Harry Kane
While The Times claim Tottenham want £100 million to sign Kane, former Manchester United player Ben Foster is on record recently saying he believes a deal could be done at £70 million.
Foster said on his YouTube channel: “Nobody’s paying £100 million for Harry Kane, it’ll be £70 million, they’ll take £70 million I bet you. Nobody’s stupid enough to pay £100 million for a player with one year. It’ll be £70 million.”
Now in an appearance on the United Stand, Foster believes this exact amount could be recouped from player sales.
He said: “You might be able to raise 50, 60, 70million quid by selling some of these players… get rid of a few players who aren’t Ten Hag players, simple as that.”
Foster added on transfer targets: “The most important is Harry Kane. If you can get Harry Kane in the summer then that is a massive boost.”
Asked about potential players he could see going, Foster named Scott McTominay, Harry Maguire, Dean Henderson and Anthony Martial as four who may be better off elsewhere.
Selling players is going to be essential to Manchester United’s plans next season. Even if Tottenham were successful in demanding the whole £100 million, United could undercut this substantially by selling players.
The MEN reports Nottingham Forest could offer £30 million for Dean Henderson, while ESPN claim United want £40 million for Scott McTominay.
That is £70 million right there, and that’s without a fee for Harry Maguire. Donny van de Beek is another who might fetch funds, while if United decided to cash in on Jadon Sancho, they would seek upwards of £50 million.
All of them alone would cover Kane, and then some. Perhaps they would all pay for Victor Osimhen and his £130 million asking price.
That would free up further funds to spend on other areas, and super-charge the next phase of Erik ten Hag‘s Manchester United project.
