Bayern Munich are still in the market for a midfielder in January amid reports claiming that Manchester United and Premier League ace Scott McTominay is a target for the German giants.
According to The Mirror, Scott McTominay ‘features prominently’ on Bayern Munich’s January wishlist. An alternative, perhaps, to top target Joao Palhinha.
Though if Bayern feel that McTominay can be the solution to their issues in the number six role, then Thomas Tuchel and co may be in for a surprise. The Scotland international’s best performances under Erik ten Hag have come when fielded further forwards, freed up to perform the sort of box-crashing duties which sparked that dramatic comeback over Brentford and opened the scoring against Sheffield United.
When pushed further back, and asked to dictate the play from deep, McTominay tends to struggle.
Still, that has not stopped Bayern from taking a keen interest in the 26-year-old’s situation, a midfielder still very much a priority ahead of the winter window.

Bayern Munich like Manchester United man
“I wouldn’t commit to something yet. But we’re looking at centre-backs, right-backs and number sixes,” Christoph Freund, sporting director at the Allianz Arena, tells BILD.
Bayern failed with a £47 million bid for Fulham enforcer Palhinha on deadline day. The Portuguese powerhouse remains a target, but has since signed a new deal at Craven Cottage.
“The club worked intensively with Palhinha in the summer,” Freund adds. “I was there for the bit on the last, strange day of the transfer window, but you can’t say yet what will happen (in January).
“We are generally exploring the market.”
Fulham are unlikely to be open to offers for Palhinha in January. And you can probably say the same of Man United. McTominay’s versatility, athleticism and goal threat has made him a key part of Erik ten Hag’s plans in recent weeks, and that is unlikely to change with Christian Eriksen joining Casemiro in a treatment table more packed than the London underground in rush hour.
McTominay not ‘untouchable’ at Manchester United
“For Scott McTominay, the situation has not really changed for a year now,” Fabrizio Romano tells Caught Offside. “The feeling has always been that he’s not untouchable for Man United.
“But it would have to be an important proposal for them to consider letting him go. They rejected £20 million from West Ham in the summer. Unless they receive important money, they are very happy to keep him.”
