Axel Disasi could be Manchester United’s top defensive target with Kim Min-Jae set to move to Bayern Munich.

Manchester United are widely reported to have a desire to sign a centre-back this summer. However, it is not the top priority. Striker, midfielder, and goalkeeper are more pressing needs.

Harry Maguire‘s likely departure will create a need to sign a centre-back. But with Kim Min-Jae now looking set for Bayern Munich, per Fabrizio Romano, Axel Disasi has jumped to the top of the list for when Manchester United are ready to move.

French newspaper L’Equipe has already reported that Axel Disasi is keen on a move to Manchester United.

Axel Disasi strengths

Axel Disasi could be a superb fit under Erik ten Hag. The centre-back’s comments on his own strengths demonstrate this.

Monaco signed Axel Disasi from Reims in 2020. He was one of the players signed by respected recruitment chief Paul Mitchell.

Upon signing in Monaco, Disasi highlighted his physicality, and ability to play out from the back, along with a respect for his coaches.

Disasi told a Monaco press conference when he was presented: “My size is an advantage, I am comfortable in the air and in my sense of anticipation.

“I also try to play the ball out from the back cleanly, to have fun on the pitch and above all to follow the coach’s instructions. I’m a player who works for the team and I hope to bring my defensive strength to bear.”

Disasi has gone onto play 129 games for Monaco, including 49 this past season. He has also become an international for France, featuring at the World Cup.

Playing out from the back is a key attribute for a modern defender, and part of what makes Lisandro Martinez an important player for the style of football Erik ten Hag wants to play.

It is easy to see why Disasi features on the club’s list of potential transfer targets for the summer.

Landing a striker is still the club’s top priority, but when the Red Devils are ready to land a defender, Disasi figures to be near the front of the queue.
