Manchester United have learned Atalanta’s asking price for Ederson ahead of the summer transfer window.
Manchester United need to make additions in midfield with Christian Eriksen set to leave when his contract expires in the summer. There are also doubts over Casemiro’s future with the 33-year-old Brazilian among the club’s highest earners.
Ruben Amorim is set to prioritise new attacking signings to address United’s lack of goals, after an underwhelming campaign from Denmark striker Rasmus Hojlund.
Ineos will hope to strengthen other areas of the team, but it depends on how restricted the club is financially this summer. It will depend on whether United qualify for the Champions League and if they can sell players they deem surplus to requirements.
Reports suggest Atalanta midfielder Ederson is United’s ‘dream target’ in the midfield department, but that doesn’t mean it will be a priority for United because it may not be feasible.
The defensive midfielder could be a shrewd addition to replace Casemiro and he could enable Kobbie Mainoo to be versatile in terms of his positioning, although it seems unlikely that the club will spend heavily in that position after signing Manuel Ugarte in a deal with Paris Saint-Germain that could reach £50.8m.

Atalanta want £63.7m for Ederson
Ederson is set to leave Italy after spending three years at Atalanta.
It remains to be seen if United will have the transfer kitty to compete for the Brazilian’s signature, but the links are going nowhere.
United’s spending power could receive a boost if Amorim’s side go all the way in the Europa League, but that will depend on their semi-final tie against Athletic Club.
According to AS, Atalanta have set a £63.7m for Ederson, with United among the list of interested in clubs.
The report outlines that the price is negotiable and Ederson is likely to leave Italy.
Atletico Madrid, Manchester City, Juventus and Real Madrid have all inquired about Ederson’s situation ahead of the summer transfer window, but he remains open when it comes to his next move.
What has Ederson’s agent said?
We already know that Atalanta won’t be making a loss on Ederson, who became a star player after joining the club following a short stint at Salernitana.
Ederson’s agent kept his cards close to his chest when recently asked about Ederson’s future.
Speaking to AS, Cesar Godoy said: “Leave? We don’t know. I have ti see when the offers come in.
“There are always probes, but we don’t know.”
Unless United win the Europa League and qualify for the Champions League, the Red Devils are unlikely to be serious contenders in the race for Ederson.
