Antony has clear preference over Man Utd departure, likely to be loaned out as clubs express interest

Antony has struggled to have a positive impact since his transfer to Manchester United.

Erik ten Hag was criticised heavily for insisting on signing Antony in 2021, but the player must take responsibility for not meeting the required standards at Manchester United.

Antony showed positive signs in the opening weeks of his career at Old Trafford, but since then, he has underperformed and been labelled a ‘flop’ by sections of the media.

The Brazil international has been unable to get back into the line-up since Ruben Amorim became manager. Antony is now competing with Amad Diallo for a place in the team following the Ivorian’s rise to prominence this season.

There is a chance Antony could be shipped out on loan this month due to his questionable form.

At least two clubs have shown an interest in signing Antony on a temporary deal.

Olympiacos and Real Betis want Antony

With Antony not getting sufficient game time at United, the winger could be loaned out for the remainder of the season.

Brazilian outlet UOL claims Olympiacos and Real Betis have made inquiries and are considering formal offers for Antony.

Antony is not keen on the idea of heading to Greece to place his football, but he considers Spain to be his preference.

Betis have been cited with long-standing interest in the 24-year-old, although it remains to be seen if they are able to reach an agreement with United over a deal.

Antony is under contract at United until 2027.

Antony loan is risky for Manchester United

Sending Antony on loan is not ideal.

After costing United £82m, there is already an acceptance that the club will take a hit if they decide to part ways with Antony.

There’s a huge risk Antony returns from a loan deal in July with his reputation even further damaged. It happened to Anthony Martial when he joined Sevilla on loan in 2022, and he’s now playing football at AEK Athens in Greece.

The biggest problem is there’s little prospect of a permanent move. It leaves United with no other choice but to consider loan deals, with the club hoping Antony increases his market value while away.

Antony had interest from Turkey in the summer but snubbed it in favour of staying at United.
