Manchester United are preparing for a transformative summer window, but one thing keeps holding them back in talks.
From Elliot Anderson to Sandro Tonali, and Yan Diomande to Carlos Baleba, it’s an open secret that Man Utd are preparing for a big window.
Champions League qualification is likely, which strengthens their hand in the transfer market, but that’s not the only factor.
Andy Mitten has revealed, after speaking to agents, that one thing keeps popping up in potential conversations with transfer targets that Ineos need to fix.

WHICH player do Manchester United NEED to sell this summer?
Manuel Ugarte? Joshua Zirkzee? Mason Mount?
Man Utd’s stumbling block in the transfer market
It goes without saying that, generally, the club is heading in a much better direction under Ineos than it was under the Glazers.
The sense of long-term planning and perspective is clear, and even if there have been hiccups along the way, the intention can’t be doubted.
However, the latest hiccup is something that needs urgent addressing, because Mitten has revealed that a lack of clarity on the head coaching situation is costing United in transfer talks.
Mitten said on The Talk of the Devils podcast: “I’ve spoken to people who know these types of things, including agents, and they want to know, will this manager improve me as a player? What style of football will I be playing? It’s entirely legitimate, but they are not the only factors.
“Money is a factor, Man Utd status is a factor. But I think it’s reasonable for a player to know what’s going on. United have lost out on players in the past because they’ve been seen as turbulent. There is a clearer direction now.”
Ineos can fix this by appointing Michael Carrick
Ineos are being patient with the head coaching situation, and that is the right thing to do.

Having said that, they don’t necessarily need to make it official while telling transfer targets what they can expect once they come to Old Trafford.
The hope is that Ineos know the direction the managerial situation will take next summer, and can communicate it clearly to potential targets.
As Mitten says above, the managerial situation is not the only factor, and the other factors work in United’s favour.
But if they can provide clarity on the only unknown, it will go a long way towards positioning United to shop at the highest levels of the market again.
