Manchester United have been warned to avoid a move for Brazil international forward Neymar.

Another last 16 Champions League knockout for Paris Saint-Germain earlier this year was the prelude to a forthcoming summer of change at the club.

Lionel Messi is set to depart, The Telegraph report Real Madrid are set to renew attempts to sign Kylian Mbappe, while Brazilian outlet UOL report the club want to sell Neymar.

The report names Manchester United as a potential destination, with PSG keen to get his £44 million per year salary off the books.

Ally McCoist on Manchester United and Neymar

Former Rangers striker and respected pundit Ally McCoist has told Talksport that Manchester United must avoid pursuit of Neymar.

He said: “He’s not a good signing for Man United. He’s not a good signing for Chelsea he’s not a good signing for Newcastle.

“I’m not sure it’s a circus but there’s certainly baggage. It might be a circus to be brutally honest the more I think about it. You don’t need all the baggage that comes with it.”

This was the type of move Manchester United would have chased under former chief executive Ed Woodward.

United’s current set up probably won’t pursue Neymar, but there is a chance that potential new owners will chase him as a statement signing.

Neymar is clearly talented, the concerns boil down to his excessive salary, age at 31, and worsening injury history which has seen him ruled out of action since February.

It would be exciting for sure if Neymar signed, but it might be better watched from afar. This feels like the type of deal Chelsea will chase.
