Ajax already keen on 20-year-old Manchester United let go in July

Manchester United sold Charlie Savage over the summer but he is already being targeted by Dutch sides FC Twente and Ajax.

United had to make some difficult decisions over the summer transfer window.

Releasing David De Gea was one of them, but we also saw United offload a number of players who have come up in the ranks.

Zidane Iqbal and Bjorn Hardley have been sold to Utrecht whilst Nathan Bishop, Matej Kovar, Noam Emeran, Marc Jurado and Teden Mengi were all offloaded in permanent moves.

Charlie Savage was another departure as United agreed to sell him to Reading – and that move is paying dividends.

Charlie Savage impressing for Reading

Savage only ever made one first-team appearance for United and it was decided that he just wasn’t going to make the grade at Old Trafford.

The 20-year-old secured a move to Reading, whose Head of Football Operations Mark Bowen has been close with Savage’s father Robbie over the years.

Savage has been a regular starter for Reading in the early weeks of the season, already bagging one goal and one assist in seven League One games.

The midfielder is still finding his feet in men’s football but his early performance for Reading have been impressive – and he is now attracting real interest.

Ajax already want Savage

The Mirror report that Dutch sides FC Twente and Ajax are both showing an interest in signing Savage in 2024.

It’s stated that both clubs have been keeping close tabs on Savage with United academy products having strong reputations in the Netherlands.

There is an interesting quirk here in that Ajax and Twente are both former clubs of Erik ten Hag, who was seemingly happy for Savage to go in the first place.

Ajax’s transfer plans are completely up in the air after Sven Mislintat’s sacking on Sunday night, so their interest in Savage is one to keep tabs on.

United will surely have a decent sell-on clause with Savage and would no doubt love to see a former youth player make a big move anyway, having learned their trade at Old Trafford.
