Manchester United have been credited with interest in Poland midfielder Sebastian Szymanski.
This summer Manchester United did a little business with Fenerbahce, signing goalkeeper Altay Bayindir, and selling midfielder Fred. The Turkish side have gone on to win 11 games in a row.
They may not be so keen to negotiate for new signing Sebastian Szymanski, who has been a big hit since a summer move from Feyenoord. The midfielder has scored five goals in eight games.
Fenerbahce paid around £8 million to sign him this summer, and according to Polish outlet Przeglad Sportowy, now value him in excess of £30 million already.
Manchester United linked to Sebastian Szymanski
Szymanski’s agent Mariusz Piekarski this week gave an interview to Przeglad Sportowy, in which the midfielder’s fast start at Fenerbahce was discussed.
Interview Jaroslaw Kolinski says he has learned there could be interest from England’s biggest club, asking: “With such numbers, has he already found his way into the scouts’ notebooks of the best clubs? I heard that even Manchester United is interested in him?”
Piekarski responded: “I don’t engage in gossip. I prefer to operate on facts. The news is that Sebek has only been in his new club for three months and everyone is crazy about him. He would like to succeed there, touch the Champions League. He didn’t manage to play with Feyenoord, but maybe he will with Fenerbahce.
“For the club, the number one goal is to regain the Turkish championship, which is why the best players, including Sebastian, are sometimes spared in cups. It is said that Fener could get EUR 30-40 million for Szymański today, but I think that at the moment he is a priceless player for them.”
Szymanski is one to watch
His agent’s comments suggest Szymanski is very happy in Turkey. However, it is not uncommon for players to spend one successful season with a club and then move on, if there is a big offer.
Kim Min-Jae spent just one year with Napoli before joining Bayern Munich, while Rasmus Hojlund had less than a full season at Atalanta before signing with Manchester United.
That’s the pulling power of a club like United, able to lure players away even if they are settled elsewhere.
Whether there really is interest from United in Szymanski remains to be seen. Next summer’s transfer window is a long way off.
But if the 24-year-old attacking midfielder keeps up his prolific scoring rate, clubs like United will certainly pay attention heading into 2024.
