Ronald Araujo is aware of rumours linking him with Premier League giants Manchester United but insists that his focus remains on Spanish champions Barcelona for the time being.
It may be telling that, as Manchester United cast their eye over some of Europe’s most talented young centre-halves, Ronald Araujo no longer appears to be under active consideration at Old Trafford.
And that’s got nothing at all to do with the Uruguayan’s talent. More that Barcelona, HITC Football understands, have got absolutely no interest in cashing in. A stance they have wasted little time in making clear as some of England’s biggest clubs come knocking to express their interest.
Araujo, furthermore, is under contract until 2026, and has a staggering one billion euro release clause in his Blaugrana contract.

Ronald Araujo not an option for Manchester United
“In every transfer window, there are rumours of all kinds. It’s normal,” Araujo says, in quotes reported by Goal. “The only thing I can say is that I’m focused on the team and also on this club. I’m comfortable here and I always try to give everything for this shirt.
“There are always rumours that appear in all windows. There was talk in the summer about Manchester United, but I am focused on Barca. And I will always give 100 per cent.”
United appear to have turned their attention to more ‘attainable’ centre-back options ahead of the summer window, with Leny Yoro, Antonio Silva, Goncalo Inacio and Atalanta’s Italy international Giorgio Scalvini among those under reportedly under consideration.
Now, no one at Barcelona can really be considered un-sellable, especially given the club’s financial concerns. But, with reports suggesting that it would take an offer of around £87 million to twist the arm of the Catalan kings, Rio Ferdinand is unlikely to get his wish of seeing Araujo strut his stuff at Old Trafford
‘He’s an unreal centre-half’
“(United should also look at) the Uruguayan boy at Barcelona, Araujo. Whether he’s gettable or not, I think he’s brilliant. He’s an unreal centre half,” Ferdinand told the Manchester Evening News late last year.
“He has every attribute to be perfect for the Premier League. I’d probably say he’s the standout, but whether he’s gettable or not, I don’t know.
“I’ve always said this – to be a successful team, you need that foundation of a solid defence and to be able to pick similar players.”
