£63m outcast ‘gutted’ after Manchester United transfer broke down

Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella is thought to be ‘gutted’ that he didn’t join Manchester United before the transfer deadline.

United ended up shopping for a left back in the final days of the transfer window.

Tyrell Malacia was already injured before Luke Shaw ended up being ruled out for a number of months through injury.

Erik ten Hag needed somebody to come in and offer cover and competition down the left flank with loan deal targeted.

Sergio Reguilon ended up coming in from Tottenham Hotspur, but only after United scrapped a deal for Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella

Marc Cucurella ‘gutted’ after Manchester United deal collapse

United were keen to take Cucurella on loan and Chelsea weren’t exactly desperate to keep him.

Spanish newspaper Marca claimed that Cucurella was close to joining United but Chelsea pretty much ruined the deal themselves.

Chelsea decided to start Cucurella in an EFL Cup clash against Wimbledon which effectively kiboshed a move.

Not only did that make Cucurella cup-tied but it also limited the chance of Cucurella leaving United in January as he wouldn’t be able to play for a third club in the same season.

The Athletic claim that Cucurella was Ten Hag’s top target but United decided to scrap the move after his appearance against Wimbledon.

The Sun now claim that Cucurella is ‘gutted’ with the situation as he really wanted a move to Old Trafford – and an exit from Chelsea.

A huge £63million signing from Brighton and Hove Albion in 2022, Cucurella is now surplus to requirements at Chelsea and he seems desperate to leave.

Real Madrid now want Cucurella

Reguilon is impressing so much for United right now that we can’t see the interest in Cucurella being resurrected any time soon.

Add in that Malacia and Shaw will hopefully be back by January and it looks like the ship has sailed on Cucurella to United.

The former Barcelona man could be on the move though with The Sun’s report suggesting that Real Madrid are now interested.

That would be a little surprising; Real already have Ferland Mendy and summer signing Fran Garcia, whilst Eduardo Camavinga has impressed as a left back too.

Maybe Real are just keeping tabs on Cucurella, but United surely won’t be challenging them any time soon.
