Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek is understood to be interested in signing for Barcelona during the January transfer window.
United appeared to have struck a superb deal upon signing Donny van de Beek from Ajax in 2020.
Van de Beek had dazzled for Ajax, racking up 17 goals and 13 assists on their way to the Champions League semi-finals in 2019.
The midfielder followed that up with 10 goals and 11 assists in the 2019-20 campaign, sparking United’s interest.
United struck a deal worth up to £39million, believing that Van de Beek would make a big impact at Old Trafford.
Donny Van de Beek has struggled – even under Erik ten Hag
Sadly, Van de Beek has just never really got going in a United shirt.
The 26-year-old has managed just 62 appearances for United, recording only two goals and two assists.
A loan spell with Everton in 2022 didn’t get Van de Beek back on track, and neither has the appointment of Erik ten Hag.
Van de Beek’s best Ajax days came under Ten Hag and some believed that the midfielder would rediscover his spark under his former boss.
That just hasn’t happened though with Van de Been playing just 163 minutes of league action last season and just two so far this term.
Ten Hag has praised Van de Beek for ‘doing well in training’ of late but the midfielder accepts that he needs to leave in order to play regularly.

Van de Beek now keen on Barcelona move
Catalan newspaper SPORT now claim that Van de Beek is keen to join Barcelona during the January transfer window.
Barca have been left reeling after a major injury to midfielder Gavi and a loan signing until the end of the season could be in their plans.
Van de Beek is now believed to be interested in the move with SPORT claiming that he has ‘offered himself’ to the La Liga giants and would be ‘delighted’ to join.
It’s unclear if Barcelona feel the same way but United surely wouldn’t stand in their way if an offer comes in for Van de Beek.
Even with midfield problems this season, Van de Beek still can’t get a chance and will surely be on the move in January – potentially with a huge move to the Camp Nou.
