Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof has outlined that he wants to stay at the club amid rumours about his contract.
A host of United players are currently away on international duty all over the world.
Defender Victor Lindelof is one of them as he features for Sweden, whose Euro 2024 qualifying hopes are effectively over already.
Sweden beat Moldova 3-1 on Thursday evening with Lindelof an unused substitute in a fairly routine win.
Lindelof should be in line to start tonight though with Sweden taking on Belgium in Brussels.
Victor Lindelof comments on Manchester United contract situation
Lindelof has been speaking to the Swedish media ahead of tonight’s game and he spoke about his contract situation.
The 29-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season but United do have an option to extend the deal by another year.
Reports from The Daily Star earlier this month suggested that United would be activating that option to make sure Lindelof doesn’t leave for free.
Whether that means United still plan to sell Lindelof next summer is still up for debate but the defender clearly wants to stay at Old Trafford.
Lindelof has told Footballskanalen that he would ‘absolutely’ want to stay, adding that he loves representing United.
Lindelof added that his family ‘feels good’ in Manchester having settled in the region following the defender’s £31million move from Benfica in 2017.
“That’s more than I heard,” said Lindelof about signing a new deal. “But I have an option year and there is a deadline for it. When exactly I don’t know. But it feels quite likely that it will be activated.”
“Absolutely. I enjoy myself very well. I am entering my seventh year at the club. I feel good and the family feels good. It’s a club that I really like, and that I love to represent,” he added when asked if he wants to satay.

Lindelof a wanted man in Italy
Lindelof is becoming very important this season with Lisandro Martinez injured and Raphael Varane again suffering problems.
Add in that Harry Maguire isn’t exactly Erik ten Hag’s first choice at centre back and Lindelof stands to play a key role moving forward.
Lindelof now finds himself a wanted man with The Daily Star suggesting that Italian sides AC Milan and Juventus are both interested.
United would be wise to activate that contract clause even if only to protect against losing him for nothing.
Selling Lindelof may still be in mind for Ten Hag and co but we will surely hear news of his contract option being taken up soon enough.
