£30m Man United star ‘excited’ at idea of joining new club, manager made personal request to sign him

Manchester United have found it hard to offload players so far this summer transfer window.

Ineos are making solid progress when it comes to new signings with Matheus Cunha already confirmed and a second bid submitted for Bryan Mbeumo.

But any further signings will rely on money raised from sales and so far there has been very little movement.

Ineos want to sell Marcus Rashford, Antony and Jadon Sancho, but finding willing buyers who are happy to pay their high wages has been difficult.

Outside of that trio, United are also exploring other potential sales and one that is building momentum is Rasmus Hojlund.

Rasmus Hojlund ‘excited’ by Napoli move

After a terribly frustrating 2024/25 campaign, Hojlund’s value has dropped to £30m this summer, meaning United would have to accept a huge loss on their £64m investment.

But with other sales stalling, offloading Hojlund could provide funds for a new striker deal. United are ‘reluctant’ to sell Hojlund but Napoli are pushing to make it happen.

According to CaughtOffside, Hojlund is “excited” by the prospect of playing for Napoli under Antonio Conte.

The Italian manager is also keen to make a move happen with the report suggesting that Conte has “personally requested” to sign Hojlund this summer.

Napoli have also shown interest in Alejandro Garnacho, but it seems his preference is to stay in the Premier League.

Antonio Conte looking to repeat Scott McTominay trick

If Hojlund does make a move to Napoli, he’ll be sharing a dressing room with a former United teammate.

Scott McTominay has become an ‘idol’ at Napoli following his £25m move to Italy last summer. The Scottish midfielder went on to win Serie A under Conte.

During negotiations, Conte was “obsessed” with signing McTominay and now he has set his sights on Hojlund as his latest target.

With United still scouring the market for a new striker, selling Hojlund could be a risk, but Ineos also need to get players out the door to boost the budget.
