£25m striker linked with Manchester United names the club he wants to join

Lens striker Lois Openda has admitted his desire to join RB Leipzig as Manchester United look elsewhere in the pursuit of new centre-forwards.

They say ‘Red Bull gives you wings’, and it seems Lois Openda is determined to test the theory.

Erling Haaland, Sadio Mane, Ibrahima Konate and more all graduated with flying colours from the feted RB finishing school and Openda, after a stunning debut season at RC Lens in France, clearly believes that a move to the Bundesliga outfit would be the logical next step in his development.

Manchester United unlikely to sign Lois Openda

“I knew this question was going to come up,” Openda laughs, speaking to RTL amid claims that he has agreed terms ahead of a £25 million switch to Marc Rose’s side (Sky Germany).

“For now, I’m an RC Lens player. I’m happy and I’ve had a good season. But we mustn’t forget that I’m a player with ambition. I want to play at the highest level possible. So you have to go to the clubs that play at the highest level possible.

“Leipzig can be a good club that will help me take a step forward. Every year, the team plays in the Champions League and plays for the title in the league.”

Manchester United, 90Min say, sent scouts to watch the Belgium international back in March.

The Red Devils appear to have set their sights on Rasmus Hojlund and Randal Kolo Muani instead, however; The Athletic reporting that talks with both players are underway as Ten Hag looks to avoid the sort of energy-sapping, feet-dragging saga that would inevitably be the result of dealing with Daniel Levy over Harry Kane.

Hojlund admitted earlier this week that he is interested in a move to Old Trafford. Comments which will have taken few by surprise, given the Dane’s very public adoration of the 13-time Premier League champions.

“It is a great club,” Hojlund smiles. “I must have done something right if it is written that they would like me! My goal is to reach the highest level, and you could say that Manchester United is there (at the highest level).

“So it would be huge.”
