Manchester United do not need to spend big to sign a new number one goalkeeper this summer, claims ex-Premier League ace Brad Friedel.
With David de Gea‘s future at the club in doubt, Manchester United have been linked to Andre Onana (£42 million) and Diogo Costa (£65 million).
Another less well known name to be linked, is Major League Soccer goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic.
The MEN claimed last week that Petrovic is being ‘monitored’ by Manchester United.

Djordje Petrovic is ready for step up
Djordje Petrovic plays for New England Revolution, and the 23-year-old is being tipped to follow Tim Howard by jumping straight from the MLS to Old Trafford.
Despite being based in America, the Evening Standard claim he is valued at £24 million, not exactly small change.
But in the context of the more expensive names like Costa and Onana, Petrovic is cheap, albeit less experienced.
Former US and Premier League goalkeeper Brad Friedel believes Petrovic is the perfect fit, due to his talent, and his price range fitting Manchester United’s budget more suitably.
He told OLBG, via the MEN: “I think Djordje Petrovic should be on the radar of Premier League clubs.
“He could start right now for pretty much any team in Europe, although he has a learning curve of course.
“From what I have seen of him, there has been no better goalkeeper in MLS for a long time. I think Petrovic is good enough to start for Man Utd and Chelsea.
“People are talking about Man Utd’s goalkeeper situation a lot, but I’m not sure they have the budget right now for the keepers being mentioned in the papers.”
Friedel proved to be a nemesis for United during his career on several occasions, saving his best performances for matches against the Red Devils. He earned 82 caps for the USA in his career.
Petrovic is just an outside option for United to consider, but a potentially appealing one, if the club decide to spent big on a striker.
