Manchester United take on Liverpool on Sunday in what will be their 100th match at Anfield.
The Premier League is back after a brief break for the October internationals, with 18 Manchester United players involved, who are in the process of returning to Carrington for pre-match preparations.
It’s a rivalry that needs no introduction as United fans look for the Liverpool fixtures first whenever the Premier League announces its annual schedule.
Many games have been won, drawn and lost at Anfield over the years, but Ruben Amorim is seeking back-to-back victories for the first time as United head coach.
One of the best performances under Amorim came in United’s 2-2 draw against Liverpool last season.
The official United website announced this week that Amorim’s side will wear the new white kit for the first time, which has led us into a deep dive about previous meetings between the two rivals at Anfield when the away side wore white.
Without further ado, here are five famous occasions when United wore white at Anfield.

‘Juanfield’ in 2015
Although the game is famously remembered for Liverpool’s Steven Gerrard being sent off just 38 seconds into his final game against United, Juan Mata took the headlines with his two goals in the 2-1 win.
The first goal came from a delightful through ball, but the second was a sensational scissor kick that left Simon Mignolet scrabbling in the net.
Wayne Rooney’s milestone winner in 2016
A late strike from Wayne Rooney settled a scrappy encounter to give Louis van Gaal’s Red Army a vital victory at Liverpool.
It was Rooney’s 176th top-flight goal for United, which set a new record at the time for most Premier League goals scored by a player for one club.
John O’Shea wins it late in 2007
In March 2007, John O’Shea scored the winning goal for United against Liverpool at Anfield in the 90th minute.
The former Republic of Ireland international found himself in the right place at the right time as Pepe Reina spilt Cristiano Ronaldo’s free-kick inside the box.
Paul Scholes also got sent off in the match.
Diego Forlan reaches cult hero status with brace in 2002
Although Diego Forlan wasn’t a huge success at United, fans still chant the Uruguayan name to antagonise Liverpool supporters.
Forlan exploited Liverpool on the first day of December in 2002 when he struck twice in three minutes to help United win the match 2-1.
The first goal came from a Jerzy Dudek mistake, but the second was a sublime finish and an example of Forlan at his very best.
Gary Pallister’s surprise double in 1997
Scoring an unlikely brace to help United to a 3-1 win in March 1997, Gary Pallister was not the only United player to score two goals at Anfield that year whilst wearing a white jersey.
Andy Cole equalled the feat with two goals in December of the same year.
