Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes will have fond memories of facing Brighton ahead of the next Premier League clash.

Bruno Fernandes provided a sublime pass to Harry Maguire at Anfield to secure Manchester United’s 2-1 win over Liverpool last time out.

It was the first time under Ruben Amorim that the Red Devils have won back-to-back Premier League matches, and now the challenge is to build on the momentum and make it three in a row.

Up next for United in the Premier League is a visit from Brighton on Saturday evening, which could provide a chance for Carlos Baleba to audition for the Red Devils.

Bruno Fernandes will hope to keep Baleba quiet in midfield, and the Portuguese playmaker will have good memories of facing the Seagulls.

Bruno Fernandes made 100-minute history vs Brighton

In 11 appearances against Brighton, Fernandes has scored five goals and provided two assists.

Back in 2020, Fernandes was on the scoresheet as United beat Brighton 3-2 at the Amex Stadium, and he secured the three points with the final kick of the game.

Bizarrely, though, the winner came after referee Chris Kavanagh had blown the full-time whistle.

Kavanagh had blown at 2-2, but an ongoing VAR check led to a penalty being awarded, meaning players had to walk back onto the pitch.

Fernandes stepped up and scored United’s third goal of the game, ensuring Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side took all three points back to Manchester.

After the match, Solskjaer told Sky Sports it was the first time that United had ever scored a goal after the full-time whistle: “I don’t think we ever scored after the final whistle, no that’s right. But of course their handball was before full-time so it’s the probably right thing to do and for us it’s a big thing.”

Bruno Fernandes penalty record this season

Throughout his United career, Fernandes boasts an impressive penalty record. He currently has the record for most penalties scored by a United player with 39.

However, Fernandes has not been his usual self from the penalty spot in 2025/26.

Fernandes scored a late winner against Burnley from the penalty spot, but he missed from 12 yards against both Fulham and Brentford. United dropped points in both matches.

Ruben Amorim has confirmed that Fernandes will remain United’s penalty taker despite his 33% success rate this season.

If an opportunity arises against Brighton, Fernandes will hope to repeat his heroics from 2020.
