It’s reported that American financial investment giant Carlyle is in talks for a ‘large’ minority investment in Manchester United.
According to Mark Kleinman of Sky, The Carlyle Group have joined fellow investment giant Elliott Investment Management in the bidding process.
Discussions have been ongoing for some time, with the interest, described as “serious”.
This will come as another blow for United fans, as a minority investment means the Glazers will remain in position.

This comes as the auction for the Old Trafford side enters its concluding stages, with a proposed final round of bidding.
With a final deadline for offers to invest or acquire the club set for April 28th by The Raine Group. This is likely the first of many breaking stories in what promises to be a busy few weeks.
Who are Carlyle?
The Carlyle Group is a multinational private equity and investment firm. Boasting assets worth more than £298bn according to their website.
In the UK Carlyle own companies including RAC breakdown recovery service and Addison Lee, the taxi hire group.
They also hold investments in household names such as Supreme and Golden Goose Deluxe Brand.
Details haven’t yet emerged on the bid, but it’s likely they’re looking for a minority stake in the club. This spells bad news for United, in comparison to the complete sale most expected.
However investing in United would be a relatively new adventure for them, having little to no experience in sports.
Neville responds
United legend, Gary Neville has responded quickly to the reports, stating his opposition and emphasising he wants a full sale.
“No thank you! This doesn’t work for United!” Neville tweeted, “Full sale only” he continued.
This echoes what many United fans’ beliefs will be on the ongoing sale process.
