Thomas Zilliacus says PSG have acted ‘foolishly’ as he eyes three-pronged super-bid

Manchester United bidder Thomas Zilliacus has criticised the way Paris Saint-Germain have operated since they were bought by QSI.

Zilliacus is the wildcard bidder in the race for the Red Devils and he has been speaking to foreign outlet Expressen.

He has been outlining his own vision for the way the club should be run, and picked out PSG as an example of what he considers to be bad practice.

Zilliacus believes whoever is the owner, Manchester United should not follow the route of chasing big name stars.

Zilliacus speaks out, again

Zilliacus says he believes Manchester United should be a team, first and foremost, rather than a collection of individual big names.

He explained: “I don’t want to do like PSG, who have acted foolishly and only bought the biggest names.

“I think you should build a squad of hungry players who together form a team. It is a more traditional way and a clearly cheaper way.”

PSG are built around an attacking trident of Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi. They have been eliminated in the Champions League last 16 in consecutive seasons.

Off the field, he is not giving up on a collaborative bid. He would like to team up with both Sheikh Jassim and Sir Jim Ratcliffe for a super-bid, for the good of Manchester United.

He points out that the only winners of the current situation would be the Glazers.

Zilliacus says: “It is a headless situation where there are three of us driving up the price, which only benefits the Glazers and not the club.

“It would be much smarter to team up, give the Glazers a reasonable sum and use the money for the good of the club.

“I hope I can get them involved in a dialogue about this. I don’t care about being the sole owner, because this is not an ego trip for me.

“Together we could offer Sheikh Jassim bottomless cash, the local anchorage in that Ratcliffe is from Manchester and me. We could offer everything, bottomless cash and progressive ideas.”

The Finnish entrepreneur’s comments all sound sensible. But whether his two rival bidders have any interest of teaming up, currently seems unlikely.
