The games are coming thick and fast for Manchester United at the moment, but there’s also so much going on off the pitch as a proposed takeover is almost upon us.
It’s been a wild ride so far, but now it appears just two candidates are in for the club.
The big question still remains, however… will the Glazers sell up?

Who are the candidates?
At this moment in time, there appear to be two candidates in the running to take over the club.
The first is Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the second is Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani.
What are the latest bids?
Both candidates submitted fresh bids in a third wave of bidding on Friday 28th May 2023.
Both bids differ. Ratcliffe is offering a package which would allow the Glazers to keep being involved with the club by holding a minority stake.
The Sheikh bid would allow a full sale, meaning they have complete control over the club’s finances.
Why are the Glazers selling Manchester United?
Much like most intentions with Avram and Joel, the reason they are looking to sell Manchester United is purely for financial gain.
They first won control of Manchester United in 2005 for a measly £790 million. The family has not invested more money since then – and has even loaded the club with more debt than they began with. Now they believe they can sell for a huge profit.
This being said, they also may not decide to sell. It all depends on what will benefit them most financially.
How much is Manchester United worth?
According to the Financial Times they estimate that Manchester United Football Club is worth around £1.6 billion.
However, this simply does not mean this will be the price the club is sold for. Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s latest bid according to The Athletic amounted to a whopping £5 billion.
