Ineos are now looking to strike an exciting double move with both Dan Ashworth and Paul Mitchell being targeted for Manchester United roles.
The news United fans had been waiting for finally arrived on Christmas Eve with Sir Jim Ratcliffe confirming his investment in the club.
The deal still needs to be ratified by the Premier League but Ratcliffe should seize 25% of United without a hitch.
Ratcliffe and his company Ineos will be taking control of football operations at Old Trafford, which sounds like one of the biggest challenges in football right now.
There is so much work for Ratcliffe and co to get through and the establishment of a real football structure – in line with other top clubs – will be paramount.
Ineos eyeing double move for Dan Ashworth and Paul Mitchell
iNews now report that Ineos may look to bring in not one but two highly-regarded operators to lead United’s off-field work.
It’s stated that Newcastle United’s Dan Ashworth is the absolute top priority for United with a view to him becoming the sporting director.
Formerly of The FA and Brighton and Hove Albion, Ashworth is now the sporting director at Newcastle and has become known as one of the top directors in the game.
Whether United can actually tempt Ashworth out of Newcastle remains to be seen but he has a strong relationship with Sir Dave Brailsford, which could aid United’s chances.
Ineos also want to bring in Paul Mitchell as a head of recruitment, working alongside Ashworth in a new-look United setup.
Mitchell worked as sporting director at Monaco before leaving earlier this season and Ineos are trying to find a way to land both him and Ashworth, rather than one or the other.

Ashworth and Mitchell double act should excite Manchester United fans
We would have been excited enough if Ineos can land Ashworth.
Ashworth’s work in the Premier League and even with The FA make him a candidate with a proven track record of progress and getting things done with minimal fuss.
That would be a far cry from United’s recent history and Ashworth would feel like something of a dream appointment for this new era.
To then add a renowned talent spotter in Mitchell would be enormous too, having brought some quality players to Tottenham Hotspur, RB Leipzig and Monaco.
Landing two experienced operators in their fields would indicate that Ratcliffe and Ineos mean business, bringing some of the best around to Old Trafford.
There is still a long way to go on these deals but this could be a masterstroke if Ratcliffe and co can land both Ashworth and Mitchell.
