What happened after Man Utd loss vs Tottenham made defeat even more agonising

It was a disappointing night for Manchester United at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium.

Manchester United suffered a 4-3 defeat to Tottenham and crashed out of the Carabao Cup.

Although United were the better team and controlled phases of the game, Tottenham led 3-0 in the second half before a chaotic end to the match.

United pulled one back through Joshua Zirkzee. That goal shifted the momentum in the game as Amad Diallo scored his second in as many games to set up a nervy ending for Tottenham.

Then, in extraordinary circumstances, Tottenham scored a fourth – directly from a corner kick. Son Heung-min sent the ball over Altay Bayindir, who had a night to forget between the sticks for United.

Jonny Evans scored in stoppage time but it was too little too late from United as Tottenham progressed in the competition.

Manchester United miss chance to repeat cup feat against Liverpool

Not beating Tottenham in the Carabao Cup quarter-final became more agonising for United fans when we learned that Ange Postecoglou’s men will battle it out with Liverpool for a place in the final.

Meanwhile, Arsenal and Newcastle face off in the other semi-final.

Before United beat Manchester City in the FA Cup final at Wembley, Erik ten Hag’s side ruined Liverpool’s season at a time their fans were talking about winning the quadruple in Jurgen Klopp’s farewell campaign.

It went down as one of United’s season highlights because knocking Liverpool out of the FA Cup led to a trophy-winning journey, as Ten Hag lifted his second piece of silverware in two years.

Amad’s 121st-minute winner will be remembered for securing a classic FA Cup quarter-final win for United at Old Trafford.

Liverpool have been strong this season but they were also stronger than us in the Premier League last season. That didn’t stop Ten Hag’s side from getting a result when it mattered.

One major positive from Manchester United’s Carabao Cup blow

Not having a two-legged tie in the new year means less fixture congestion for United.

This is a positive because Ruben Amorim is currently trying to implement his system and doesn’t have enough time on the training pitch due to United’s fixture schedule.

United have three more fixtures before the start of 2025, and January is going to be busy with seven games pencilled in.

This is why it’s not ideal to change management mid-season.

Amorim believes the changes he is putting in place will help United in the long-term future. He needs more time with his players at Carrington to achieve that.
