Three options United could explore to replace Luke Shaw for Luton Town clash

Manchester United face the prospect of going to Kenilworth Road without one of the team’s most important players next weekend.

Luke Shaw had to be substituted at half-time of Manchester United’s game against Aston Villa, with the Red Devils eventually running out 2-1 winners.

The injury to the left-back would be a dire scenario for the Red Devils but Erik ten Hag has assured the fans that it was a precaution.

Despite this, there is a chance Shaw could miss the game against Luton Town. Here are three options Ten Hag could replace him with.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka/Diogo Dalot

The most logical, and most likely, option for the Dutchman is to bring in Aaron Wan-Bissaka at right-back and move Diogo Dalot to the left-back spot.

This has been seen countless times this season due to the Dalot’s tendency to move infield to create overloads in central areas, moving to the opposite side shouldn’t be an issue.

Wan-Bissaka has been usurped in the first team by the Portuguese defender and this game may represent a chance to prove his worth, dependent on if he is fit to return following his own injury problems.

Victor Lindelof

The second option is to bring Swedish defender Victor Lindelof into the team and play him at left-back. Lindelof replaced Shaw at half-time at Villa Park but struggled.

Moussa Diaby had a field day against the Swede in the second half but was bizarrely replaced midway through the second 45 by Unai Emery.

Lindelof, as a right footer, won’t be able to offer the overlapping runs of Shaw and the team struggled to create chances after he was introduced. Nevertheless, he could be a good option.

Sofyan Amrabat

The third, and certainly most unlikely, option to replace Shaw is Moroccan midfielder Sofyan Amrabat, who has now firmly been ousted from the first team thanks to Kobbie Mainoo’s emergence.

However, when Amrabat first joined the club, his debut against Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup saw him line-up as a left-back for the Red Devils.

He did look assured against Roy Hodgson’s side but the Moroccan as a left-back has not really been since then. With the job of United’s full-backs to invert, Amrabat could be key for this and could well prove to be an interesting option to replace the former Southampton defender.
