Erik ten Hag has his fair share of blunders both on the field and in transfers at Manchester United, but his worst one has just gotten worse.
Manchester United will be cursing the moment Erik ten Hag tells them to sign Antony as opposed to Mohammed Kudus.
This decision is one that many fans have also rued as Kudus’ arrival at West Ham has seen him explode into a supreme talent, while Antony has gone the other way at Old Trafford, with the Ghanian costing less than half what Antony cost (£38m vs £85m).
Kudus has been incredible for the Hammers and his latest outing has only further hammered home the point that he would’ve been a far better signing than United’s Brazilian.
This came in the form of a show-stopping solo goal which wrapped up West Ham’s progression into the quarter-finals of the Europa League.

Erik ten Hag will be left ruing his Antony purchase after Mohammed Kudus’ brilliance
Commentating on TNT Sport as Kudus scored that truly incredible goal to put the Hammers 4-0 up, Paul Dempsey raved about the ‘unstoppable’ star for his ‘thing of wonder’ in scoring.
This goal – followed by the incredibly cold celebration – is just a showcase of how special Kudus is with his talent one which truly could’ve been a game-changer for Ten Hag at United. Not to mention the fact he added a second later in the game from outside the box with an excellent strike finding the corner to give West Ham the 5-0.
But moments like this one aren’t a rarity for Kudus as it was actually his 15th goal contribution this season for David Moyes‘ West Ham side – with an extra five contributions for Ajax prior to his move.
He has truly lit up that West Ham side on the right which couldn’t be further from the case with Antony right now as he has fallen out of favour.
United could’ve had Kudus with the forward being a massive Ten Hag fan, crediting him for his success which makes it even more frustrating.
Kudus snub just shows how vital it is that Manchester United bring in Dan Ashworth
The decision to bring in Antony, when Kudus was under Ten Hag’s nose in Amsterdam is still a baffling one and it’s a move which makes the the Ineos‘ desire to improve the club’s recruitment make tonnes of sense.
For example, the reported £20m asking price for Dan Ashworth would be a bargain if he saved United £50m on a deal or two as he could’ve with this deal.
Ten Hag needs to have the control over recruitment revoked as he’s proven time and time again it isn’t a strength of his.
If he is to remain as the manager beyond this season, United and Sir Jim Ratcliffe need to have the right structure above him in order to avoid a mistake similar to signing Antony over Kudus.
