Ruben Amorim walking the talk at Man Utd summed up by his action in 65th minute, his predecessors rarely did it

Ruben Amorim will always demand more and that’s ideal but the fans went home happy after Manchester United swept aside Everton 4-0 at Old Trafford.

After a win on his home debut, Ruben Amorim followed it up with a win on his home debut in the league with the most convincing of scorelines that should fill the players with belief.

Amorim has been a breath of fresh air and most importantly for Man Utd, this doesn’t look like a case of new manager bounce.

The Man Utd manager has immediately brought in a swathe of changes, most of which are paying off and some are building toward paying off.

However, his biggest case of “walking the talk” came in the 65th minute against Everton when he did something that no other manager before him had done.

Ruben Amorim’s big decision

Managers have changed, playing styles have changed, and under Ruben Amorim, even the formation has changed but one thing has been constant.

That beacon of consistency in a chaotic club has been Bruno Fernandes, who has picked up form again after starting the season on a slumber.

It arguably cost Erik ten Hag his job but his form picking up after his departure has seen Ruud van Nistelrooy, then Ruben Amorim benefit.

If fit, Fernandes is the first name on the teamsheet and it speaks volumes about his importance that even though Amorim has stressed rotation at United, Fernandes has been among the select outfielders to have started all three games under him.

However, against Everton, it was a rare occasion when not only did he come off after starting, but did so when there were 25 minutes plus injury time still to be played.

There is likely no injury worry either, so Amorim took a decision with one eye on the Arsenal game with the team finally in a position where they didn’t need him to pull the team out of a ditch.

Bruno Fernandes sub has achieved one big thing

In the grand scheme of things, this move by Ruben Amorim won’t get much attention and rightly so, since Arsenal is just two days away and this game was won.

However, the circumstances in which it happened tell the story that Amorim has already achieved a major thing at Old Trafford.

For a long time, a moment of magic from Fernandes was needed to save United when the whole team was below par and he was almost the system unto himself.

After just three games, not only are United winning with rotated teams, but they are also seeing games through without their talisman.

The best part about that is that it is not an indictment of Fernandes’ quality. In fact, he assisted two goals in a good performance.

However, the reality is that this team is finally becoming bigger than a player and no longer needs one player’s non-negotiable presence to be able to get over the line.

There will be tougher challenges in the future and the team will lose or even struggle to perform but one thing is clear. The Man Utd squad is finally playing like the sum of their parts.

It is a departure from when Fernandes seemed like he was the only working part in a creaking machine.
