Ruben Amorim vs Jason Wilcox became the final subplot before his sacking, and it has now emerged that he failed to finalise one transfer last summer that was 99% agreed by Wilcox.
Despite Ruben Amorim’s sacking mid-season, it can’t be denied that Man Utd’s general work to strengthen the squad last summer has aged well.
In fact, it has been good due to going against Amorim’s wishes, as he wanted Ollie Watkins, Emi Martinez, Antoine Semenyo, and Conor Gallagher instead of Benjamin Sesko, Senne Lammens, Bryan Mbeumo, and Kobbie Mainoo.
He even failed to land one player for whom a deal was 99% agreed by Jason Wilcox, only for Amorim to fail to hold up his end of the bargain. Only this time, United might thank him.

What position would Man Utd be in NOW if Ruben Amorim was still head coach?
Let's hear your views!!!
Man Utd failed in Liam Delap chase due to Ruben Amorim
Amorim gets a lot of flak for wanting Watkins over Sesko, and Jason Wilcox will be grateful for it because his own choice wasn’t very inspiring either.
It’s an open secret that United tried hard to sign Liam Delap for his relegation release clause, with Wilcox driving the pursuit.
Sesko was the pivot after Delap joined Chelsea, and the reason why Delap made that choice is due to Amorim’s failure.
The Daily Mail reports that people close to United say a deal for Delap was “99%” done, and he would have come to Old Trafford had United qualified for the Champions League.
Amorim’s United put up a toothless display in the Europa League final to hand that place to Spurs, and Delap consequently joined Chelsea instead.
Man Utd might thank Amorim for Delap snub
Unlike the narrative around the Lammens-Martinez saga, United might end up thanking Amorim for Delap snubbing them.
Senne Lammens has been voted SIGNING OF THE SEASON by fans on TalkingPoints – Send your message to the goalkeeper here…
It is impossible to hypothesise how he would have performed at United, but his form for Chelsea this season makes his snub look like a blessing in disguise.
Furthermore, Sesko has shown signs of true greatness this season, hitting double figures in league goals for the season recently.
Delap’s injury problems also make his Chelsea move look worse, and that’s something United could ill-afford at the No. 9 position this season.
Amorim didn’t have much success at United, but like a broken clock, even one of his failures ended up benefiting United massively.
