Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim should ignore the noise around any calls for the Red Devils to make a surprising swoop for a Premier League winner.
Ruben Amorim is only in the early phases of the squad rebuild of the Manchester United first team that he inherited from Erik ten Hag during the 2024-25 season.
Erik ten Hag’s spell as United manager came to an end last October after his sacking and the former Ajax boss’ exit paved the way for Amorim’s arrival at Old Trafford.
Amorim left his native homeland and role as head coach of Sporting CP to take his place as United manager amid a turbulent 2024-25 Premier League season.
The 40-year-old former Sporting CP boss was unable to turn the Red Devils’ season around and United finished their lacklustre campaign in 15th place in the table.
Amorim did have the chance to secure a route back to the Champions League, but United’s 1-0 Europa League final defeat to Tottenham ended those hopes.

Man Utd’s solution is not Jamie Vardy ahead of the Leicester City legend becoming a free agent this summer
Ruben Amorim was left deeply frustrated by Manchester United’s woes in the final third last season and the Red Devils struggled to make a real impact at times.
Both Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund underwhelmed leading the frontline for United and the Red Devils are linked with signing a new striker in the summer.
Jamie Vardy will become a free agent in the summer after the Leicester City captain confirmed back in April that he would leave the King Power Stadium.
Leicester City were relegated from the Premier League in the 2024-25 season under Ruud van Nistelrooy, who was United assistant manager to Erik ten Hag in 2024.
Jamie Vardy has had a remarkable playing spell at the Foxes and the 38-year-old striker played a key part in Leicester’s famous 2015-16 Premier League season.
The former England striker has lifted both the Premier League title and the FA Cup with Leicester and has been a loyal servant for the Foxes during his prolific spell.
Ruben Amorim cannot take Man Utd a step backwards by bringing Leicester City legend Jamie Vardy to Old Trafford
While there have been no concrete rumblings that United might move for Jamie Vardy, the player is somebody that the Red Devils cannot bring in now.
The soon-to-be former Leicester City striker is long past his prime and Vardy would only represent a short-term solution for the bigger problems that United face.
There is no denying the impressive accomplishments that Vardy has pulled off, not to mention the former Three Lions star’s tested Premier League experience.
However, United need to avoid a repeat of the Jonny Evans situation by bringing in an experienced player on a free transfer and only plugging one hole temporarily.
Vardy only managed to score 10 times in 36 matches in all competitions for Leicester in the 2024-25 season amid the difficulties for the Foxes at the King Power Stadium.
Amorim needs a new striker and Ineos and Sir Jim Ratcliffe need to put up the investment for a talent for the long term rather than potentially signing an ageing Vardy.
