Morgan Rogers is among the left-wingers Manchester United are showing interest in signing this summer, and he’s just passed a Sir Alex Ferguson litmus test.

After the midfield, this summer sees the left wing a priority for Manchester United, with neither Matheus Cunha nor Patrick Dorgu a natural in the position.

Therefore, Morgan Rogers has emerged as a United target, with his steep £100m valuation looking more and more likely to be held to.

Rogers is open to leaving Aston Villa, and at United, he would have a manager he knows and trusts, along with the Jason Wilcox link from his Manchester City days.

Now, Rogers has ticked a key box.

Morgan Rogers stars for Aston Villa vs Liverpool

Rogers is a huge admirer of Michael Carrick, and the pair had success at Middlesbrough. The result is that Rogers is likely to be the number one priority on the left this summer.

Now, at Villa Park against Liverpool, Rogers has made his best case yet that he is ready for a big move.

Rogers scored and assisted in the 4-2 win, which claimed Champions League football for Villa. His performance also saw strong dribbling through the middle, and his physicality allowed him to win his duels.

The goal that he scored was sensational, a copy-paste strike of the two he scored against United in December, curling an effort into the far top corner.

This has taken Rogers’ goal tally to 10 for the season in the league, alongside six assists, which is a record that should convince United.

Rogers has 24 goal contributions in all competitions, but his performance against Liverpool might be the most important yet.

Rogers ticks Manchester United box set by Sir Alex Ferguson

Rogers has had a season to remember, which looks certain to earn him a big move somewhere this summer.

United won’t be completely convinced by his transfer fee, but by shining against Liverpool, he has ticked a box Sir Alex Ferguson often made key.

United players performing against Liverpool was always considered a litmus test for whether they would make it at United or not.

Rogers passed this before even joining United, and now if he is signed this summer, the Red Devils can be confident that he has what it takes.

He has the feeling of a United player, both on the wing and as a Bruno Fernandes replacement when he eventually leaves.

Rogers cutting in on his right foot and finding the top corner in a United shirt is something we can imagine happening regularly.
