Micky van de Ven is lacking what made Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha perfect Man Utd signings

Manchester United should end their interest in Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven before it even gets started.

According to The Athletic, Manchester United are interested in Micky van de Ven as a centre-back option.

Tottenham are headed for Premier League relegation which could trigger a fire sale in North London and make the Dutch defender available at a bargain price.

But United would likely face competition from giants around Europe, including Real Madrid and Liverpool, who are also in the market for a new defender.

Micky van de Ven would choose Liverpool over Man United

Speaking to The United Stand, journalist Ben Jacobs gave a new update on the Van de Ven transfer saga.

Jacobs confirmed: “Internally at Manchester United, they have discussed Micky van de Ven, so we have to wait and see if that develops.”

However, he also explained that the 25-year-old would “unquestionably” choose Liverpool over United if the Merseyside club came calling.

That alone should be enough for Ineos to end any sort of transfer interest in the Spurs star, as United need players wholly committed to ‘Project 150’.

Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha were desperate to join Man United

Last summer will go down as one of the best transfer windows for United in recent memory, with Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, Benjamin Sesko and Senne Lammens all making an extremely positive impact on their debut season.

Interestingly, sporting director Jason Wilcox pointed out that Mbeumo and Cunha were desperate to join United and even rejected Champions League clubs in order to make their move to Old Trafford.

United had success buying proven Premier League players in Mbeumo and Cunha, but Ineos need to make sure the players being signed are eager to be part of the long-term project.

If Van de Ven is more tempted by a Liverpool side who are currently behind United in the Premier League table, then that should end this transfer saga before it even picks up pace.
