Randal Kolo Muani’s disappointing start to life at Paris Saint-Germain is coming under the microscope after Premier League giants Manchester United opted to bring in Rasmus Hojlund instead.
The shining light in another calamitous defeat for Erik ten Hag, no player in this season’s Champions League has more goals to their name than Rasmus Hojlund. The deadly Dane, netting twice against former employers Copenhagen, is now the fastest player in Manchester United’s history to score five in Europe’s premiere club competition.
Randal Kolo Muani, in contrast, has just one to his name, despite starting every one of Paris Saint-Germain’s four group-stage games so far.

Randal Kolo Muani struggling at PSG
According to L’Equipe reporter Loic Tanzi, Man United failed with a £60 million bid for the former Eintracht Frankfurt talisman before breaking the bank for Hojlund instead, and their highly contrasting displays in matchday four of the Champions League does little to dispel the notion that Ten Hag chose the wrong man to lead his attack.
“I feel like I was wrong, and that I was deceived about the technical quality of certain players,” former France international and one-time Birmingham City hero Christophe Dugarry tells Jerome Rothen’s podcast.
“I didn’t think Kolo Muani had boxes (on his feet) instead of boots! It’s a huge surprise.”
Hojlund the Champions League’s top scorer
PSG eventually parted with an eye-watering £77 million for Kolo Muani, Frankfurt earning the profit to end all profits on a player they snapped up on a free from FC Nantes 12 months earlier. With just two goals in Ligue 1 as well as one in the Champions League, Kolo Muani is not the only misfiring, big-money centre-forward who may have Manchester United supporters breathing a sigh of relief either.
Goncalo Ramos, another striker who was on Ten Hag’s radar before Hojlund’s arrival, has only two in 14 PSG appearances himself, a miserly return making a mockery of his own £60 million price-tag.
