Manchester United have now done something that will horrify crisis-hit Pep Guardiola

Manchester United are on the charge – while Manchester City are experiencing a crisis like Pep Guardiola has never had before.

When Manchester United moved to appoint Ruben Amorim, the hire was viewed as a particularly shrewd one, amid Manchester City’s reported interest in the Portuguese manager. The Guardian had reported Amorim was their top choice.

Now even more unfortunately for City, Pep Guardiola is in the midst of a crisis, where you wonder just how bad it is going to get.

City have now lost six games out of their last seven, and drawn the other, after giving up a three goal lead.

Goal difference

There was one consistent theme of Manchester United under Erik ten Hag; the team’s goal difference was awful.

Last season Manchester United’s goal difference was -1. It’s genuinely hard to comprehend how bad that is across the season, except when you remember the quite terrible performances served up week to week, with Ten Hag’s team leaking shots at a rapid rate.

By contract, league winners Manchester City had a +62 goal difference. That speaks volumes for how far ahead they were.

Now, amid City’s slide in form, it will horrify Pep Guardiola to know Manchester City have a worse goal difference than Manchester United.

City’s goal difference is currently +3, while Manchester United’s is +4.

Prior to this weekend United’s was 0, while City’s was +5. Ruben Amorim’s first league win has turned all of that around.

Manchester derby upcoming

The question Manchester United fans want to know, is will Manchester City’s crisis continue all the way to the derby on December 15?

United have a few more matches to get to that point, beginning with the upcoming game away at Arsenal. We then face Nottingham Forest and Viktoria Plzen, before the trip to The Etihad

City face Nottingham Forest, Crystal Palace and Juventus, before Ruben Amorim’s United come knocking.

Make no mistake, City are in crisis by their standards, while United are on the rise. And the last head coach Guardiola will want to face is Ruben Amorim.

Amorim handed Guardiola his biggest defeat of the bunch, a 4-1 win with Sporting. Can he do it again with Manchester United?

Now that would really swing the goal difference, and make a major impact in the column that matters most; points.
